Giornata Astrofisica, il cielo non ci basta! #2

On 20 September 2024, the event “Giornata astrofisica, il cielo non ci basta! #2 – Aspettando la notte europea dei ricercatori e delle ricercatrici 2024” was organized by the Physics Department of the University of Rome Tor Vergata as part of the European Researchers’ Night. The event took place at the Macroarea of Sciences, where students, families, and young people gathered to participate. During the afternoon, the Solar Physics Group from Tor Vergata offered real-time views of the Sun using various telescopes and explained the structures visible on its surface. Several groups of sunspots were identified, and prominences rising above the solar limb were visible through an H-alpha filter. As the Sun set, the focus shifted to the Moon and Saturn, which had reached opposition on 8 September, the point at which the Sun, Earth, and Saturn are on the same line of sight, making the planet brighter and easier to observe. Hundreds of people attended and enjoyed the entire event, which was also accompanied by live musical performances.
