
The third congress of the Italian Space Weather Community (SWICo) was held from November 27th to 29th at the headquarters of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) in Rome. This event gathered the Italian community to discuss advancements in understanding and predicting Space Weather phenomena, fostering collaborations and sharing insights on topics ranging from short-term Space Weather forecasting to contributions addressing longer time-scale phenomena (i.e., Space Climate). The discussions included new instrumentations, theoretical models, and analysis techniques that enhance our ability to monitor, analyze, and predict solar and geomagnetic activities. The program featured both oral presentations and poster sessions, with several contributions from the Solar and Space Physics group of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
Dr. Valentina Penza gave a talk titled “Solar Irradiance Reconstruction in the Last Millennium and Predictions for the Near Future”. Dr. Raffaele Reda presented “Cross-Scale Phase Relationship of Solar Activity with Solar Wind Parameters: A Space Climate Focus”. Dr. Luca Giovannelli introduced “GATES: A Network for Synoptic Space Weather Observations”. Simone Chierichini discussed about “CME Arrival Modelling with Machine Learning”, while Ronish Mugatwala presented “A Catalog of CME-ICME Lineup Events”. Prof. Dario Del Moro presented “The ASPIS prototype: the database, the web app, and the Python package”. Letizia Casara showcased “Sun Cube One (SEE): A CubeSat Mission for High-Energy Solar Observations”. Simone Mestic gave a talk titled “High-latitude ionospheric dynamics: a decadal analysis of Swarm satellite data”. Finally, Lorenza Lucaferri presented a poster titled “Solar Irradiance Grand Minima and Related Impacts on Earth’s Atmosphere and Climate”.
Notable recognitions were awarded to members of our group. Michele Berretti received a mention for his Master’s thesis as part of the Franco Mariani Prize, while Letizia Casara was recognized among the best young scientist’s talk.
