Space It Up! Days in Florence

Space It Up! (SIU!) is a strategic alliance bringing together 33 entities from universities, research institutions, and industry. Funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), it is dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of space sciences.

The main objectives of the project are to:

  • Promote innovation and expand fundamental knowledge;
  • Fostering a sustainable future;
  • Ensure long-term human permanence in extraterrestrial environments;
  • Strengthening the ‘ecosystem’ space in Italy.

The project is organized into 9 spokes, each focusing on a different theme within space science.
Our Solar and Space Physics group is strongly involved in Spoke 6: “Protection of Critical Infrastructures and Space Weather”, which aims to develop the scientific knowledge, technologies, and operational tools required to monitor, forecast, and mitigate Space Weather events. Its activities span the entire physical chain from the Sun to the Earth, ranging from data analysis and theoretical modeling to mission design and innovative payload development for future space missions.

From January 26 to 28, the first plenary congress of the Space It Up! project took place in Florence, at the Polo delle Scienze Sociali of the University of Florence.
